Literature Text

Your demons lived in your head
They laid out pillows
And settled down for a stay
But they howled and clawed
Until you flung them from your mind
And shielded what little was left
You rose up walls against the beasts
Crafted a bulwark of tarnished steel
But the world looked on in pity
So you polished your armor
Buffed it until it shone
Flawless and without seams
You stood tall and proud
All who laid eyes upon you
Praised its flawless surface
Never heading the broken creature within
But the monsters you had pushed away
Never picked up their roots and fled
They stayed in a dark cloud
Your doubts and fears and pain
On midnight wings they followed
And their claws tore at your armor
But you never even felt their talons
For the shell you had built yourself
Could rebuff the fiercest of attacks
And then one day
Came a new kind of monster
One with feathers of white snow
Who took a different tact
She perched on your shoulder high
And whispered in your ear
Honeyed words that made you feel again
As you had when you were whole
So came that entity in white
Who spoke to you so sweetly
Wormed her way in
Split your armor in two
Then reached to your breast
And out plucked your heart
Into that dark hole
Rushed the swarm
Breaking you beyond repair
For the one in white
Was not fear, nor doubt
She was of a more dangerous breed
For it was love that cracked your armor
And love that broke you
I was sad so I did the moody poetry thing.
